Google Reaffirms Ads in AI Mode Are Still in Testing

Google (GOOG, GOOGL) has confirmed that ads shown within its AI Mode search results are not part of any official rollout but remain ongoing tests. The clarification came from a PR representative on Friday following speculation on social media.

SEO Consultant Sparks Discussion

Independent SEO consultant Brodie Clark posted on X that Google appeared to be showing ads in AI Mode “for the first time ever.” His observation quickly spread across the SEO community.

However, Google responded through its PR agency stating that users seeing ads in AI Mode results “is simply part of Google’s ongoing tests,” which have been active for several months.

Testing First Announced in May

Google initially revealed plans to test ads in AI Mode at Google Marketing Live earlier this year.
The company began experimenting with AI Mode advertising in May after receiving positive feedback from ads displayed in AI Overviews.

No New Rollout Timeline

According to Google’s spokesperson, there are currently no new updates regarding a broader rollout of ads inside AI-powered search modes.
