Historic Investment in Arkansas

Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), officially broke ground on its new $4 billion data center campus in West Memphis, marking the largest single investment in Arkansas history. The project will run through 2027 and employ hundreds of people in the region.

Alphabet President & CIO Ruth Porat made the announcement alongside Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and local leaders.

Campus Features & Infrastructure

The project covers 1,000+ acres in West Memphis.
Facilities will include:

A state-of-the-art data center
Office buildings
A substation facility
Additional supporting infrastructure.

Energy & Sustainability Commitments

Google will cover the full energy costs of the facility.
The company will ramp up new solar power and battery storage resources to support operations.
The campus will also reuse gray water for server cooling, ensuring no local water supply issues.

Community & Economic Impact

The project will deliver millions of dollars annually to the city of West Memphis.
Mayor Marco McClendon called it “the biggest day in our city’s history,” branding West Memphis as part of the “Digital Delta West.”
Google announced a $25 million energy impact fund to help improve energy efficiency for low-income households in Crittenden County and surrounding areas.

Regional Tech Momentum

The initiative builds on the Greater Memphis Chamber’s “Digital Delta” vision, spurred by Elon Musk’s xAI supercomputer project in Memphis last year.
Local officials said the project shows Arkansas can compete and lead in advanced technology infrastructure.
